SeaCycle 2025 Comes to Coconut Grove: Over 4,000 Pounds Of Ocean Plastic Highlighted At Miami’s Sustainability Event

On Saturday, May 10, SeaSweepers will present SeaCycle 2025 at Kenneth Myers Bayside Park in Coconut Grove.

This groundbreaking public event will showcase more than 4,000 pounds of marine debris collected from the Florida Keys, Miami’s coastlines, and The Bahamas. The event aims to raise awareness about ocean plastic pollution by displaying these materials in a curated experience that demonstrates how they can be cleaned, reclaimed, and repurposed into sustainable products, offering an educational glimpse into the future of recycling.

SeaCycle 2025 invites Miami residents, sustainability advocates, students, and families to learn about the impact of ocean plastic and explore the potential of its recycling and reuse.

Transforming Ocean Waste Into Valuable Resources

In the months leading up to SeaCycle 2025, SeaSweepers, alongside nonprofit partners such as Ocean Aid 360, MORAES, Shark Allies, Captain Paul Watson Foundation, Fillabag, and the Conch Republic Marine Army, have recovered thousands of pounds of ghost traps, fishing nets, plastic ropes, and post-consumer plastics from the vulnerable marine environments of South Florida and The Bahamas. These materials will be cleaned with the help of community volunteers before being sorted live at the event. Afterward, the cleaned plastics will be shipped to Boston, where they’ll be converted into traceable, recycled products like building materials, benches, and sunglasses.

SeaSweepers is proving that even the most neglected marine debris can be reintegrated into the circular economy with transparency, innovation, and a significant environmental impact, combining AI technology and blockchain traceability.

What to Expect at SeaCycle 2025

The event will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Kenneth Myers Bayside Park for this free event, which includes:

  • A close-up look at over 4,000 pounds of real marine plastic collected from Miami, The Bahamas, and the Florida Keys
  • Video exhibits and visualizations demonstrating how plastic is cleaned, recycled, and transformed into sustainable products
  • A family-friendly cleanup competition, with prizes for creativity and participation
  • Exciting raffle prizes, including boat tours, scuba lessons, and gift cards to local restaurants
  • Light refreshments, music, and networking opportunities with sustainability leaders
  • Community booths, nonprofit organizations, and educational resources for students and educators

“This isn’t just an event; it’s the beginning of something meaningful,” said Naveen Sydney, CEO of SeaSweepers. “We’re showing the community that ocean plastic doesn’t have to end up in landfills or remain in the ocean—it can be cleaned, repurposed, and turned into something useful right now.”

Why Local Coverage is Important

The SeaCycle event is not just a sustainability achievement, it’s a local story that directly impacts the Miami community:

  • Much of the plastic on display was recovered from the very waters of Miami’s coastlines.
  • The cleanup effort was powered by volunteers and nonprofits with strong ties to Florida.
  • The event is hosted in Coconut Grove, a neighborhood with a long history of environmental activism.
  • SeaSweepers is considering permanent facilities in South Florida to scale marine plastic recycling efforts.

Local media coverage from outlets such as The New Tropic, Miami New Times, The Coconut Grove Grapevine, The Miami Herald, WLRN, CBS Miami, WPLG Local 10 News, Time Out Miami, The Biscayne Times, Culture Crusaders, and neighborhood newsletters will be crucial in rallying the community around this important cause.
